It didn’t take Christine and I long to choose a location. Puerto Vallarta!! (PV)
Chris and I have vacationed there in the past. We loved it. There’s a sense of new development, and an old downtown with some old-world charm. When we traveled there about a dozen years ago, it felt safe. This is very important to us being 2 women. So now if you google, “Safest places to live in Mexico”, we were glad to see this location pop up.
We will be staying in an Airbnb for the first 6 months. It has already been reserved, and we’ve put down the first month’s rent. Our rent varies depending on the month, but the average is about $2k for this specific condo. We chose a more developed area of PV. This condo is next to a mall type shopping area. In the shopping area are restaurants, banks, barbers, and grocery stores. This was a huge plus as we will be flying into PV, and we needed necessities within walking distance. The condo has a pool, so I know the kids will be ecstatic. They’ve been taking swim lessons for about a year now, and they are getting better at their strokes.
We are also within walking distance of the Marina and the beach. These landlocked Kansans are not going to know what to do with themselves.
Once we get there, we will apply for Temporary Resident Permits, with the US Consulate. We can keep renewing these permits annually, for up to 3 years.
Through all of this planning and prepping, our minds just keep going back to the kids and excited we are for them. We know it’s not going to be fun in the sun every day. But Christine and I are so excited to be headed to PV. We talked about making a preliminary visit, but decided against it. We’re just trusting our instincts and experience from long ago. We’re getting ready to dive right in!
Until the next post, stay safe everyone – Tammi
